The orginisation provides a rough guide of the equipment to be collected, number and type of items, approximate
weight and location of the equipment. This enables us to allocate the correct size of vehicle and appropriate
manpower for the collection.
Once on site, our collection operatives will record the type and number of equipment to be collected and tags each item being uplifted with a unique collection identifier. This provides full tracking of each item collected throughout the
recycling process. Clients and Ecosystems representatives countersign for the exact ammounts uplifted.
For highly sensitive Hard Drives and where the client specifies, the following procedure is followed: All hard drives are removed from equipment on site by the client. Hard Drives serial numbers are scanned and recorded by our collection operatives and loaded on to our CESG Approved Deguasser. Our 91 HD/DLT degausser, a hard drive degausser and DLT degausser is capable of removing data from PC hard drives in less than 20 seconds and will render the hard drive inoperative. The inoperable hard drives are then removed from site and base recycled.
Alternatively Clients can request the use of our EDR Hard Drive Crusher where the following procedure is followed: All hard drives are removed from equipment on site by the client. Hard Drives serial numbers are scanned and recorded by our collection operatives and loaded on to our Hard Drive Crusher. EDR hard drive is capable of physically destroying Server, PC and laptop hard drives in less than 15 seconds and will render the hard drive inoperative. Once equipment arrives at our facilities the equipment is visually inspected to check for signs of physical damage.
Those items that are identified as damaged are moved to the quarantine area for further assessment. The outcome
of each item of equipment is then registered on the client asset list.
All equipment that has passed the visual inspection is then PAT tested by our own internal qualified staff. Our testing procedure involves: Preliminary visual inspection,
Earth continuity tests (for Class 1 equipment),
Insulation testing (Which may sometimes be substituted by touch current measurement),
Functional checks. Electrical testing is performed by a person who is competent in the safe use of the test equipment and who is able to interpret the test results obtained.
POST & TECHNICAL ASSEMENT
Equipment that has passed PAT testing is then POST tested to check for normal operation. Any system that fails the
self test or is identified as having a technical issue is moved to quarantine for further investigation. The outcome of
each item of equipment is then registered on the client asset list.

CLEAN & FINAL VISUAL CHECK
All labels, stickers and asset tags are removed using either a micro steam gun, or hot air gun (only manufacturing
tags and PAT test labels remain on the equipment). Equipment that is suitable for resale is then recorded on the
asset list and moved to our central warehouse facility, with non suitable equipment sent to quarantine.
Suitable equipment that has been through the processes described is then offered for resale. Ecosystems IT sells
second user equipment in a number of areas, such as: 3rd Party Maintenance Companies, Specialist ICT
Suppliers and Commercial Organisations.
Information of sales prices and client buyers is then added to the asset list in order to complete total tracking and
establish what levels of asset release are due.
Ecosystems IT do not export equipment, or waste outside of the UK
All equipment that is deemed unsuitable for resale is broken down to its base forms.
Base forms such as metals, plastics and copper wire are recycled using the standard recycling processes.
PCB’s are sent to specialist metal reclamation companies where precious metals are extracted and the remaining
plastic is recycled. CRT monitors are de-manufactured with plastics and copper being recycled. The Cathode Ray
Tube is sent to a specialist recycler where the lead cullet and high grade optical glass is re-introduced in to manufacturing.
All equipment held in quarantine is re-assessed and a financial viability decision is made on whether to repair, break
down for spares, or base level recycle.
